About SSH

Scholars at The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities disseminate their expert knowledge and qualify the public debate on current issues relating to society, nationally and internationally. The climate crisis, integration problems, poor well-being among children and young people, pressure on the healthcare system, digital transformation and other complex challenges place new demands on both basic research and research with an application-oriented aim. The faculty's distinctive features are basic and applied research of a high international quality within the social sciences and humanities as well as the research intersection between the two academic areas. Our mission-oriented and interdisciplinary approach enables us to create breakthroughs, ideas and method tools that can help ensure a sustainable (global) society and learning in the 21st century.

A future-oriented and vibrant knowledge environment

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Aalborg University is a future-oriented and vibrant scientific and educational environment where humans in their social surroundings, institutional relations, and cultural contexts are at the core. We bring the humanistic and social aspects into play as regards technology, health, and climate, and explore how people act and create meaning and change concerning both public and private stakeholders.

Mission-oriented

AAU is a mission-oriented university, which is why we focus on ensuring that research and education at SSH make a difference in society and that we offer knowledge to meet some of the major challenges we are facing locally, nationally, and globally.
Interdisciplinary collaboration and collaboration with external stakeholders are key values – both in relation to research projects and in our study programmes.

Faculty management

The faculty is headed by a dean, a vice-dean for research, a vice-dean for education, and a vice-dean for continuing and further education (EVU) and knowledge collaboration. Administrative support is provided by the Dean's Secretariat.
The Department of Sociology and Social Work and The Department of Politics and Society receive administrative support from a joint secretariat. The Department of Culture and Learning, The Department of Communication and Psychology, Aalborg University Business School and The Department of Law have their individual secretariats.
